BYRD, WISE TO BREAK GROUND FOR W.Va. 9 UPGRADE PROJECT
|
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, Gov. Bob Wise, Transportation Secretary Fred VanKirk, Federal Highway Administration representatives and other state and local dignitaries will break ground Monday, April 7, officially beginning the upgrading of another segment of W.Va. 9.
Scheduled for 10 a.m. in the gymnasium of T.A. Lowery Elementary School at 55 Shenandoah Junction Road off W.Va. 9 in Shenandoah Junction, the ceremony marks the start of grading and drainage work on 0.34 mile of the route, one of the most heavily traveled in the Eastern Panhandle.
Under a $2.8 million contract, ALL Construction, Inc. of Mt. Storm will prepare the route in the area of Bardane Industrial Park for the future four-lane divided highway with a 46-foot median. Using 66-inch drain pipes, the firm will relocate water and sewer lines from Wiltshire Boulevard (Jefferson County 8) southward.
During construction, traffic will be maintained on existing W.Va. 9, which will continue to serve local traffic after completion of the new highway.
