Construction on the First Section of the Route 9 Project to Begin in July
According to officials from the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH), construction on the Route 9 project is expected to begin within the month of July.

State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault explained the clearing and grubbing contract for the one-mile section connecting the Charles Town Bypass to Cattail Run Road was awarded to Ahern and Associates in late June 2001. Ahern and Associates is planning to begin the initial steps of the construction process in July.

The WVDOH expects to receive bids for the grading and construction of a bridge on this section of the project in August.

"The ultimate objective of the Division of Highways is to build the safest and most convenient transportation system possible," Deneault said. "Beginning construction on Route 9 puts us one step closer to achieving that goal. It is truly a significant event for the eastern panhandle."
