Route 9 Planning Proceeds
After long and careful study, the location of a new segment of 4-lane WV Route 9 has been determined. Work began many years ago, but has been slowed repeatedly by concerns over the route and potential impact on the many historical sites which are located in this area. Following the environmental and historical impact studies and planning, construction is underway along two different segments of this highway corridor in Jefferson and Berkeley Counties: from Charles Town to the Virginia State Line and from Martinsburg to Charles Town. In addition, planning work is in progress, but at an earlier stage along two other segments: the Martinsburg Bypass and the section from Martinsburg to Berkeley Springs.
